The Kaanapali Beach has consistently been rated as one of the best beaches in the world. Having spent time there I can attest that Kaanapali is a great beach. The resorts that line Kaanapali Beach are excellent as you would expect for such a fine Hawaiian beach.

The nice thing about the hotels on Kaanapali is they are rather low rise, usually just 4 or 5 stories versus Waikiki with the highrises crowding the shore. This gives the beach area a much more open and less crowded feel. While the beach at Kaanapali can get busy, it doesn't get wall to wall crowded like some famous beaches.
There is a nice shopping center called Whaler's Village right at Kaanapali, with some nice shops like Tommy Bahamas and a couple restaurants. I'll never forget eating Mahi Mahi at the restaurant there and how they open up the ocean side of the restaurant and allow that warm trade wind to gently blow through.

The Honua Kai is a beautiful resort on Kaanapali Beach which includes a spa. The rooms there also come with fully equipped kitchens. Most people I imagine don't want to cook while on vacation, but it does save a lot on the food budget if you don't have to eat out every meal. Honua Kai is also a fairly new resort also, so it is very modern.
